A summary of our work over the last few months

Dear brothers and sisters and friends in Christ

It has been several months since our last letter, and throughout this time the Lord has sustained us with His grace. We want to share with you a summary of what He has been doing in our family, in the ministry, and in the projects we support.

In addition to these longer letters, we send shorter updates on a regular basis to our prayer team and donors. If, after reading this letter, you would like to receive these updates, we invite you to do so by clicking on the button or form:

Getting to know the Nomatsiguenga

Living among the Nomatsiguenga has been a continuous learning experience.
They are a people who do a lot as a community, with deeply rooted beliefs. The parents work hard in the fields, while the children are often left alone, which limits their intellectual development and even the care of the family itself. We have also learned the importance of masato, a traditional drink, and their taste for certain insects that are part of their diet.

Advances in Bible translation

We thank God that the translation of the books of Jonah and Genesis has been completed.

  • Pepe will be recording the audio for the book Jonah so that it can be heard in the community.
  • Miriam prepared a comic strip about Jonah and language lessons to teach children through this book.

Translation technology in South America

In recent months, we have been able to support other translation teams on the continent:

  • Providing training to the Yanesha people in Peru, strengthening their work with new tools.
  • Participating in the ongoing training of translation consultants who work on various projects in South America.
  • Training leaders from diverse communities on how to create material in their own language using Bloom.

Towards a literacy project

The Lord is opening doors to start a literacy program among the Nomatsiguenga people.

  • Miriam has already started creating materials and studying the best way to use them.
  • We have also had conversations with local teachers, exploring how to support them in teaching their own language, with the support of our colleagues at the Base.

Our family

In May, the Lord blessed us with the news that a new baby is on the way. The pregnancy was delicate at first, but God heard our prayers, and today we are happy to share that everything is progressing normally. It will be a boy!

Our daughter Kari has also faced some health issues, probably as part of her adjustment to life in the jungle. We ask for your prayers for her strength.

As for the construction of our house, we have seen God’s hand through brothers and sisters who came as volunteers. Although there is still much to be done, we are thankful for every step forward and continue to trust in the Lord’s provision.

Prayer requests

We appreciate your prayers for the following reasons:

  1. Adaptation and relationships: May God grant us understanding of the Nomatsiguenga culture so that we may relate better and serve with love.
  2. Ministry and teaching: In September, we will have a month of training with elementary school teachers. We pray that we can help them study their language and introduce the book of Jonah.
  3. Family and health: For Kari’s health and for Miriam and the baby on the way.
  4. Construction: For the next stage of the house, may the Lord provide helping hands and the necessary resources.

Thank you!

We want to sincerely thank you for accompanying us in prayer and support. Every advance, every step in this ministry, is also the fruit of your faithfulness in the Lord.

With love in Christ,
Pepe, Miriam, Kari, and the baby on the way

Thanks (gracias) to each one of you who are being part of the Lord’s ministry with your prayers, offerings and messages of encouragement.

The pictures are awesome! Thanks for taking the time to update us so well. We love hearing about the work that God has called you to there.
